Student Artwork

Prints from Kutztown University 1984 to 2019

I retired from Kutztown University in 2019. When I retired I left hundreds of prints in my office and printmaking studio flat files. Most were student prints, some were my own, and some were done by faculty members or visiting artists. I didn’t want to deal with these prints at the time. Not long after that, the pandemic started and I mostly just stayed in my own studio. This collection of artwork remained at Kutztown University.

Leslie Friedman was hired to teach printmaking at Kutztown University. We talked about these prints and I’m sure she wanted to use those flat files herself. But she was very patient. Finally we decided to go through all these prints. We selected the best of them for the University’s collection.

We received a grant from the University to catalog, document, preserve and exhibit the collection. Following are photos of the collection. We already have one exhibition planned for the fall of 2024.

There are a lot of blanks – names, titles, dates, etc. Anyone with information on these works is encouraged to contact me at evan.summer@gmail.com.

Where did these prints come from?

Most of the prints I acquired were student prints from my Introduction to Printmaking and Printmaking Studio classes. At the end of each semester I would keep some prints for campus exhibitions. I told students they could have them back after they were shown or at the end of the next semester. Many were never picked up. Other prints were gifts to me and still others are from Studio Printmaking portfolios.
